Kimon Koemtzopoulos, born in Athens, Greece, has completed a MSc degree in Marine Biology at the University of Essex. His main interest is the conservation and protection of our natural heritage. He will be participating this summer as a research assistant in the IDP.
Growing up in close contact with the sea and by witnessing the gradual destruction of its treasures, Kimon developed a passion for understanding marine life and the relationship of humans with the sea. Hence, he decided to contribute to the attempts to bring balance to this, sometimes fragile, relationship. Having worked in the Aegean Sea over the past year on a wide range of conservation issues including marine mammals, he is excited with the opportunity to study the cetaceans of the Eastern Ionian Sea and explore its unique beauty. He holds a PADI Open Water Diver license and is fluent in English and Greek.
