At the IDP we strongly believe on public awareness and education activities as an effective way to convey a certain conservation message among the local community. For the last few years we organized “Dolphin Day” events and numerous lectures in local schools. This year we have gone a step further and for the upcoming Sunday 11th of August we have organized a special event; ΤΟ ΠΕΡΙΒΑΛΛΟΝ ΤΟΥ ΑΜΒΡΑΚΙΚΟΥ / THE NATURE OF AMVRAKIKOS GULF.
The event will start at 19:00 in Vonitsa’s seaside and will include numerous activities and interactive games addressed to get the participation of local children and their families. This will be followed by a couple of presentations about the dolphins of the Amvrakikos Gulf and the research work conducted by the IDP, as well as an exhaustive review of the characteristics that make the Gulf such a unique ecosystem. A representative of the local small-scale fishermen community will be also giving a speech.
Since the early afternoon an extensive art exposition will be put on display, showing numerous drawings, paintings and sculptures produced exclusively for this occasion by kids of the Primary School of Vonitsa and from the Centre of Creative Activities for Children of the Municipality. A couple of local artists have prepared also some works to provide additional support to the initiative.
Detailed information will be also delivered about the marine mammals inhabiting Greek waters and on the threats that they are facing. Support materials generously provided by our friends of the Thalassa Project will be distributed among the participants.
There will be also big panels and screens providing information and small tips on how to protect the sea by including some very simple practices in our daily life. We can all make a difference!
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL IN VONITSA NEXT SUNDAY 11th
